The ISO508 is designed with input and output buffers for ease of integration into a P bus system. The output buffer has tri-state capability, and by the use of OE, the output data bus lines can be made to go high impedance. This feature of the ISO508, which allows multiple access to a data bus, requires extra circuitry when using an alternative solution.
