The AT79C8020 device integrates a dual link Gigabit Ethernet Controller with a PCI Express interface. The AT79C8020 incorporates the PCI Express interface, MAC and GBE PHY core. This system also incorporates TCP segmentation offload, TCP/UDP/IP checksum offoad, and VLAN insertion/removal offload. Frame head and tail analysis modules are employed. This controller system supports ASF 2.0, which provides advance warning and system failure indication from managed clients to remote management consoles through an SMBus. An embedded microcontroller with firmware completes the related network protocol implementation and sensor status monitoring. The system will receive/transmit Ethernet packets compliant with IEEE 802.3 standards, and also supports full/half duplex mode. The Ethernet controller supports layer 2/3/4 protocol processing.
